# KS2 Upper Body Muscle Names

Upper body muscles are essential for everyday activities like lifting, throwing, climbing, and even carrying a rucksack. By learning about these muscles, children can:

- Develop better body awareness.
- Understand how their body works in different sports and physical activities.
- Gain an understanding of their own physical strengths and areas that require development.

## Here are some main upper body muscles and their roles:

- **Biceps -** Found at the front of the upper arm, these muscles are responsible for bending the elbow and are used in activities like lifting and pulling.
- **Triceps -** Located at the back of the upper arm, they help straighten the elbow, essential for pushing and throwing.
- **Latissimus Dorsi (Lats) -** These large back muscles assist in pulling and twisting movements, such as climbing or rowing.
- **Serratus Anterior -** These are found near the ribs and helps move the shoulder blade, aiding in pushing and punching, great for boxercise!
- **Pectorals (Pecs) -** These chest muscles are key for pushing movements and are engaged during actions like throwing a ball or pushing a door.
