# Year 3 Basketball

Perform some basic basketball skills, throwing, catching and dribbling. Build attacking/offensive play. Implement some basic rules of basketball.

1. to keep possession of the ball when dribbling
2. to work as a pair to move forward and attack.
3. to use a defensive body position.
4. to perform a two-handed shot to score baskets.
5. to use a jump ball to restart a game.
6. when to move to space to receive the all.

### Key Questions

1. How do you start a new game?
2. In what ways did you restart the game after a basket was scored?
3. When throwing in the ball, what things did you have to consider as the referee?

### Equipment

Size 5 basketballs, cones, hoops, basketball posts, bibs, stopwatch, whiteboards.

### Vocabulary

Control, bounce, shoot, target, assist, jump ball, attack, defend, shoot, offensive.

### Rules

* If the defender makes deliberate contact, the attacker gets a free throw from the sideline in line with where the offence happened.
* Start the game with a jump ball/tip-off.

### Assessment Overview

**Head** – Explain why we look to 1) shoot 2) pass, and 3) dribble.

**Hand** – Use a jump ball to start a game.

**Heart** – Assist teammates to shoot.
