11 years ago we launched The PE Hub to help schools deliver high-quality PE lessons. Since then we've grown a lot, and today we're used by over 1000 schools for curriculum and lesson planning. We're very proud of the small part we've played in moving PE forward in schools across the UK over the last decade.
However outside of school, children are in the grip of an inactivity crisis with Sport England reporting that less then half of children are meeting the guideline 60 minutes of physical activity each day. The pandemic has made an existing trend much worse. Schools are trying hard to help families get active by running physical impact and education workshops for parents. However there's a limited amount that can be done outside of school hours - especially with increasing pressure on school resources.
We Want to Help Change This
From speaking to parents and teachers we believe that one of the biggest barriers to getting active is inspiration. Parents are more busy than ever and simply don't have time to think up new games and activities on the hoof. They need pre-created solutions that work for any type of home.
Our new Family Zone is designed to meet this need. It's an online inspiration resource for parents who want to get their families active. We've initially launched Family Zone with 16 home PE games across 3 categories; Simple PE games, Problem-Solving Exercises and Fun Family Fitness Sessions. No game requires any equipment, and where a downloadable / printable resource is provided usage is optional. We've taken care to make sure they can be played in any type of home, by any type of family.
Over time we'll be growing the scope of Family Zone by adding more games and categories. It will always remain completely free so every family can benefit from the inspiration provided.
Help Us Spread the Word!
Now we've launched Family Zone, the biggest hurdle we face is making parents aware of it. Schools can have a huge impact by telling parents about Family Zone and directing them to the resources provided. Here are some ways of telling parents suggested by our partner schools:
- Best - Provide a link to Family Zone and/or The PE Hub on your school website. School websites are read by a wide variety of parents. If you have an area for external resources for parents Family Zone will fit perfectly! We'd suggest the following text - Family Zone from The PE Hub is a free website full of fun PE games to inspire families to get active at home.
- Next Best - Share information on Family Zone in your school newsletter. We'd recommend something like the following text - The PE Hub have launched Family Zone, a website full of fun PE games to inspire families to get active at home. It's completely free to use and includes video and PDF resources for parents.
Telling parents about Family Zone will make a huge difference to the number of parents who use it. We're so grateful for your support.
