National School Sports Week 19th June 2021 – 25th June 2021

What is National School Sports Week

Children’s charity, the Youth Sport Trust, started the annual National School Sport Week campaign in 2008, and it has run every year since. Last year the campaign was repositioned as National School Sport Week at Home, and, with many young people not in school, families were invited to take part at home for the first time. With the help of Sky Sports, it reached 2 million people. Read more about the 2020 campaign here.

This year with schools back up and running, NSSW is an ideal opportunity to give pupils the extra time on physical activity and sport that was missing when they were at home.

5 ways to use your PE Hub membership during National School Sports Week

  1. Choose a sport or sports and set up a round-robin tournament using our ‘Competition Planner’ – you can find this in our ‘Teachers Toolkit’. We also have rules available for each sport which can be found at the bottom of the unit overview pages. For younger years, choose a game framework from any of the units of games and turn it into a tournament, either an intra or inter-class.
  2. Teach the Sports Dances and use our blog on STEP to differentiate for younger pupils. You can find them in Year 6 dance, Lesson 3.
  3. Use our new Movement Breaks document, which is also found in our Teachers Toolkit. Movement breaks are quick and simple ideas to get children moving in limited space, such as in the classroom or during assembly time.
  4. Our new Foundations lessons are a perfect way to get some daily movement. Foundations work on mobility, stability and flexibility. You could teach 1 lesson each day for the whole week or complete them as a one-off.
  5. Find our Tuesday Challenge Cards in the Teachers Toolkit and on our social media pages. Pick your favourite activities and have a go.
