Angry and Happy Cat

Happy and angry cat are names for shapes we can make with our bodies, and they are often used in gymnastics and other activities such as yoga.

Angry cat

Recreate the shape of an angry cat to round off the back. Push the lower back up by engaging the stomach muscles. The back will appear rounded when in the correct position, this is a very stable and strong shape.

Happy Cat

On hands and knees again, as in the angry cat position, relax the stomach muscles so the back creates a dipped shape/hollow shape. The more flexible you are, the more pronounced the hollow is. This is not a strong position, so it should never be used as a load-bearing base, for example, in a partner balance.
