A partner balance usually involves two gymnasts working together, where one acts as the base, providing support and stability, and bears the weight of the other partner, known as the flyer.
The base and the flyer
In partner balances, the base provides a stable and strong foundation, using strength and balance to support the flyer. The flyer performs elevated positions relying on the base’s stability. The flyer must have good body control, balance, and trust in the base. Effective communication and trust between the base and flyer are essential for successful partner balances.
Safety
- Never stand on a joint – e.g. stand on the thigh, not the knee.
- Ensure the base and flyer are comfortable with the position before taking full weight.
