In tag rugby, the W grip is how children hold the ball with their hands spread wide, thumbs close together underneath and fingers on top, forming a “W” shape. We teach this grip because it helps children keep control of the ball, catch more securely, and pass more accurately. Using the W grip also encourages good hand positioning early on, making skills safer, more confident, and easier to develop as children progress
