Tennis Forehand Shot

A forehand shot in tennis is used when the ball comes to the dominant side of the player. This allows the player to hit it with an open stance and a powerful shot. The forehand stroke is often used to control the game, as it is accurate and can give the player an advantage over their opponent.

Our forehand shot resource demonstrates the basic action of a stroke in three
simple steps. It is ideal for showing pupils what you want them to aim for.

Tennis Forehand Shot Teaching Points

  • Children should use a forehand grip as if they are shaking hands with the racquet.
  • They are aiming to hit the ball on the same side of their body as hand that is holding the racquet.
  • Pupils do not need to swing back too far and do not need to hit too hard.
  • A nice smooth motion should be encouraged, hitting through the ball to the targets.
