A basic two-handed shot is used when the player has time to take the shot without being defended or put under pressure

Basketball Two Handed Shot Teaching Points

  • Feet balanced and positioned beneath hips, with knees slightly bent
  • To shoot, the dominant hand should be underneath the ball with the supporting hand to the side
  • Shoulders square onto the net with eyes focused on the net
  • Push up through feet and straighten legs to create power for the shot
  • Hands guide the ball and follow the shot up and forward
  • The ball should flick off the fingers to create more power
